Congressional Gold Award

I earned the Congressional Award Gold Medal, the highest honor for youth civilians. To acquire the Gold Medal, I completed at least 400 hours of Voluntary Public Service, which means sharing my time and talent for the betterment of the community, 200 hours of Personal Development, which can include developing social and life skills as well as interests, and 200 hours of Physical Fitness. Additionally, I spent at least five days and four nights exploring a new environment or culture. I consistently worked for over two years to achieve this honor.

I earned my Congressional Award Gold Medal by completing over 1000 hours cumulative in Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Exploration. I tutored several students in our community library, volunteered through Little Helpers, and started a Girls in STEM club at my middle school to help girls grow their interest in the STEM sector. For my Personal Development, I developed my interest and ability in playing the flute. I practiced my scales so that I could play them with more efficiency and at a quicker pace. Along with this, I also worked towards improving my ACT and SAT scores through coaching and practice. To enhance my Physical Fitness, I improved my skills in tennis by developing the power of my strokes and made my school’s tennis team. I also increased my stamina and strength through walking and other exercises. I planned an Exploration and visited five different space museums nationally (Wright Patterson, Ohio; United States Space & Rocket Center, Alabama; Coca-Cola Space Center, Georgia; Kennedy Space Center, Florida; Langley Space Center, Virginia). I immersed myself in all of the marvelous space exhibits they had. I also got the chance to interview NASA Scientists and learn more about the space field to help achieve my dream of practicing space medicine in the future. The Congressional Award allowed me to experience and discover interests and new things like never before.

Mason High School HOSA

HOSA is a medical competition for healthcare enthusiasts! I have participated in HOSA for the past three years and have made it to the international competition every time. This year, my partner and I won first place for CERT Skills at the HOSA International Leadership Conference hosted in Dallas (International Champions)! We are also Ohio State Leadership Conference and Region 7 Champions for CERT Skills! Previously, we placed second in Ohio for CERT Skills and ranked top 30 internationally for CERT Skills at the International Leadership Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee. CERT Skills has allowed me to learn more about civilian emergency medicine, and I hope to spread this knowledge to everyone around me. I have met many like-minded medical enthusiasts through HOSA!

Leadership Initiatives

Leadership Initiatives is a non-profit dedicated to giving students real-world career experiences that provide a rigorous and complete academic experience within a nurturing, immersive, student-centered environment. Currently, I am a staff member for Leadership Initiatives. I work to guide interns through medical campaign processes, conduct practice diagnoses, and work on and for various public health and neuroscience internships. In the past, I attended the Advanced Medical and Public Health Internship, the Advanced Medical Neuroscience Internship, and the International Internship Program. Through the Advanced Medical and Public Health Internship and the International Internship Program,  I used telehealth to collaborate with officials from Bauchi, Nigeria, to improve healthcare prevention and treatment for typhoid and depression there. I also interned at Georgetown for the Advanced Medical Neuroscience Internship and presented a research proposal on the effects of gravity on the brain to renowned researchers and neuroscientists.

Mason High School Science Olympiad

I have participated in Mason Science Olympiad since 7th grade. This year, I competed in the MIT and UMich Invitationals. I also captained the Mason Middle School Science Olympiad team as a freshman and sophomore.

Experiential Learning Internship

Mason City School’s Experiential Learning Program bridges the talent gap for businesses and develops ventures for students to accumulate valuable career experiences. The program, powered by the Comet Career Connectors, is a student leadership team with high-level roles to deliver every student an essential background to foreshadow potential career opportunities. As a Healthcare Industry Manager, I have the highest leadership role in healthcare. I work with members to create new career panels and help educate future generations about career opportunities to help guide students into the perfect path for them. I interview the candidates, review resumes, and prepare students for their job shadows, internships, or volunteer experience.

Kumon Math and Reading Dual Completion

I completed 44 levels (17,600 worksheets) of math and reading at the Kumon West Chester Center.

Mason High School Science National Honors Society

I serve as the Service & Communications Liaison and help find opportunities for our members to dive deep into their scientific interests.

University of Cincinnati West Chester Hospital Volunteering

To gain more experience and insight into the healthcare field, I volunteer at the University of Cincinnati West Chester Hospital. I volunteered for over 20 weeks in two departments during my junior year. First, I worked in the Sterile Processing Department. Sterile Processing is one of the more behind-the-scenes units of the hospital, as there is no interaction with other patients and rarely any interaction with other staff. I helped assemble the necessary surgical instruments for upcoming surgeries and returned tools not used in previous operations. I learned a lot about the specificities of tools and how big of a difference each part and measurement makes! Apart from sterile processing, I worked in the Food and Nutrition Department. Here, I worked to compile meal trays for patients, gather liquid feed bags, and confirm that every patient received the right food balance for each meal. Due to restrictions for patient orders, multiple people reviewed each order before delivering it. This procedure allowed for perfection and satisfaction for all at the hospital.

AP Scholar with Distinction

I was awarded this for achieving a score of 4 or greater on 5 AP exams.
